Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Blackburn North

Gracie Jiu Jitsu / Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a self defence focused martial art based on leverage and timing, instead of strength and speed.

The art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu teaches practitioners to defeat a bigger, more athletic opponent / attacker, by using techniques that will exhaust the opponents energy, while preserving the practitioners energy.

As the popularity of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has grown as a martial art, it has split into two main areas. Sports Jiu Jitsu and self defence. We do have members who compete in Jiu Jitsu competitions, but as a club we focus heavily on the fundamentals and self defence, not so much modern sports Jiu Jitsu. We focus on techniques that we can transfer to basic self defence, making sure techniques are “punch proof” and effective in self defence scenarios, not just sports grappling.

Classes at our Blackburn North Jiu Jitsu Academy are run by Axis Jiu Jitsu Blackbelt Robbie Aardoom, who received his blackbelt from Professor Jason Roebig.
